Vasco da Gama came across the country and explored it way back in 1498. Later it was colonized by Portugal and from the turn of the 16th century Portuguese trading posts in Mozambique became important trade and refreshment points along the new route to the east.

With Independence from colonial rule in 1975 there were large waves of emigration by whites and the economy came to depend heavily on South Africa. Severe drought and prolonged civil war saw the country struggling to develop, but fighting finally came to an end with a UN negotiated peace agreement in 1992. Today the economy is growing again, things are looking better and  promising for the people of Mozambique. Come see for your self, as they won't tell you all about the amazing country and the friendly people!
